The Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) represented Ireland and North Western Waters Control Expert Group (NWW CEG) at Joint Workshops hosted by Denmark and facilitated by the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) in Copenhagen this week. Other member states in attendance were Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, France, Denmark, and Sweden along with representation from the North Western Waters Advisory Council (NWWAC), the Pelagic Advisory Council (PELAC) and the European Commission.
The workshops provided a platform to present the results of the EFCA Evaluation Reports on compliance with the Landing Obligation for demersal species in the North Western Waters and the North Sea and the Mackerel fisheries in the North Western Waters and the North Sea. The evaluations were conducted in close cooperation with the North Western Waters and Scheveningen Control Expert Groups.
It was a productive week with Advisory Councils and Member states exchanging views on compliance and monitoring for the landing obligation in North Western Waters and the North Sea, as well as discussions exploring control improvements and future steps with Remote Electronic Monitoring (REM).
