SFPA Publishes New Information Notice on Changes to Mesh Size Requirements for Vessels Targeting Squid within UK Waters

The Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) has issued a new Fisheries Information Notice (FIN) concerning the amendments to the mesh size requirements for vessels aiming at squid within UK waters, specifically the English zone.

Highlights of the new requirements include:

  • The minimum mesh size for all towed gears will be increased from 40mm to 80mm.
  • Specific areas subjected to the change in minimum mesh size.
  • The changes will be in force from 24th October 2023.
