SFPA ANNOUNCES PUBLIC CONSULATION ON FISHERIES CONTROL PLAN

SFPA ANNOUNCES PUBLIC CONSULATION ON FISHERIES CONTROL PLAN

The Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) has announced today, 4th June 2021, that it is holding a public consultation to gather feedback and opinion on a revised control plan for a derogation to weigh fish after transport in Ireland. The online consultation is open until 18th June 2021. Submissions made will be used to inform the final document to be submitted to the EU Commission for its approval. The draft plan is available for review at SFPA.ie. Submissions are invited on the content, scope and implementation of the draft plan and should be emailed to: sfpaoperations@sfpa.ie .

Last April, the European Commission announced that it was revoking with immediate effect the derogation for the fishing industry to weigh fishery products following transport away from the place of landing. Currently all fishery products must be weighed at the place of landing before those products are transported, held in storage or sold. Sample weighing for certain fishery products landed in standardised boxes continues to be permitted.
